12. Jim Angliss – 1963 Ford Anglia 105E

Jim is no stranger to the world of Ford Anglias, but the example you see here is clearly a long way from the popular family car of the 1960s. And it has taken a lot of work to make it look this good.

“It had been modified and used for rallies back in the 1970s but when I bought it around twelve years ago it was little more than a rolling shell. There was no engine or gearbox and both front and rear suspension were barely attached - the rear axle was held in with just two screwdrivers!”

Left untouched for almost ten years Jim then decided that it was time to tackle the battered Ford and it led to an extensive rebuild. A lot of time was spent on the bodywork which required plenty of welding along with the fabrication of a new front bulkhead that would accommodate a larger engine.

That engine would be a 2.0-litre Pinto unit along with a Ford Type 9 gearbox, and the suspension gained adjustable coilover units, but there was a lot to do before that stage was reached. Not least of which was completing the restoration of the body so it would be ready for the next phase of the project.

Many hours were spent preparing the body for painting, with Jim undertaking the respray in his garage at home, but as the rebuild progressed he soon discovered just how many parts were missing. “A complete new wiring harness had to be made with extra relays for safety, and a lot of interior trim was also required.”

The work would take three years, but the result is very impressive and this popular Ford now looks right at home amongst the show’s sporting machines. Few Anglias look quite as eye-catching as this one.
