6. Simon McMurdy Focus RS

This generation of RS is sought after by enthusiasts, but the stunning example here has undergone something of a transformation. And it’s the perfect car for a self-confessed Colin McRae fan.

Bought at last year’s Iconic Auctioneers Silverstone Festival Sale, Simon co-owns the car with a friend and, already knowing of its existence, it’s one they had to have. It’s a tribute to V5 FMC, the car that Colin drove to victory on the 2000 Rallye Catalunya, and Simon was there to see the great driver take the win.

The owner explains that McRae drove the actual rally machine four times that year, recording two wins and two second places. So the car we have here reflects a successful season, and in its iconic Martini livery it’s certainly eye-catching and one that’s sure to grab the attention of enthusiasts.

The work to transform the RS was carried out in 2008 and included a repaint in Diamond White, and Simon has been in contact with previous owners so he knows all about what’s been done. And with so much so care and attention to detail lavished on it visitors won’t be surprised to hear that it has won plenty of trophies.

The last few months has seen the striking Ford recommissioned, with parts replaced as required, and it’s now ready to use. The two owners are keen to enjoy it as much as possible, so there are already plans to use it on non-competitive car tours and to attend plenty more shows.

It’s a remarkable car and one that has clearly involved a huge amount of work, and for fans of the sport and of McRae in particular, it’s a treat to have it at this year’s show. And don’t forget to ask the owner about his YouTube channel.
